A Quiet Birthday, A Loud Reminder

Yesterday, November 4, I turned 51.

I did not plan anything grand. No big speech, no long list of goals. Just a quiet day, a grateful heart, and a lot of memories walking through my mind.

Then I came across a quote on a social media post, and it stopped me right where I was:

"Learn to love what you have before life teaches you to love what you lost."

I read it once. Then twice. Then I put my phone down and just sat there for a while.

Why It Hit Me So Hard

Some words simply find you at the right time. This was one of them.

When you reach 51, you start to look back more often. You remember the early days, the uncertain seasons, the nights when you did not know how things would turn out. You also remember the people who stood with you and the moments that shaped you.

And as I looked back, I realized something: I have been so busy chasing the next goal that I did not always stop to say thank you for the ones already reached.

That quote reminded me to pause. To look around. To see what is already here.

Gratitude to the One Who Carried Me

Let me say it plainly: I am here because of God.

To our dear Father, our Creator, and to Jesus Christ, our Savior, thank you. Thank you for every door that opened, and even for the ones that closed, because I understand now that some of them were protecting me.

There were challenges. There were struggles. There were days I felt tired, worried, and unsure. But looking back at it all, I can honestly say that I would not trade those memories. They are worth it. Every difficult chapter taught me patience, humility, and trust. And every time I thought I was walking alone, I was being carried.

The Struggles Were Part of the Gift

We often pray for easier days. I have done that too. But at 51, I see that the hard days built the person I am today.

They taught me to value honest work. They taught me to listen to people. They taught me that success is not only about what we achieve, but about who we become and who we are able to help along the way.

The struggles were not the opposite of blessings. In many ways, they were the road to them.

What We Have Is Already Enough to Be Thankful For

It is so easy to say "I will be happy when..." when I have more, when things are better, when the problems are gone.

But the quote offers a different way: be happy now. Love your family at the dinner table, not only in photographs. Appreciate your health while you still feel strong. Hug your loved ones a little longer. Say the kind words today.

Because the truth is, life does not always give us a warning. We often realize the value of something only after it is gone. I would rather learn to love what I have now, while I still have it.

Peace of Mind Starts With Appreciation

For nearly 30 years, my work in insurance has put me close to families at some of their most important moments. Through that, I have learned something simple: people do not really worry about policies. They worry about the people and things they love.

Their family. Their health. Their future. Their home.

If there is one lesson those years have given me, it is that caring for what we love is a quiet act of gratitude. Whether it is a prayer, a conversation, a plan, or a little preparation, protecting the ones we cherish is another way of saying, "I value you, and I am thankful you are in my life."

That peace of mind is what I hope to help people find, in my work and in my own life.

A Prayer for Today

Lord, thank you for the gift of another year. Thank you for my life, for my health, and for the people you placed beside me. Forgive me for the times I overlooked your blessings while chasing more. Teach me to love what I have, to be content, and to be kind. Keep my heart humble and grateful. And may I use the years ahead to bless others the way you have blessed me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Question for You

I will leave you with something to think about, as I am still thinking about it myself.

What do you have right now that you might one day miss?

Maybe it is a person, a routine, a season of life, or your health. Take a moment today to thank God for it, and to thank the people attached to it. Call someone. Say it out loud. Do not wait.

If you feel like sharing, I would love to read your reflection in the comments. Let us encourage one another to love what we have today.

Salamat po for reading. God bless you and your family.
